FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

My son’s school schedule is crazy. How can he fit in regular sessions with an Academic Coach?

We offer a flexible schedule and customized lesson plans that fit each student. Our Academic Coaches are used to working with students’ school, work, and extracurricular schedules. We can also work with your son to help him organize his schoolwork and better utilize his study times.

I want to monitor my child’s progress. How will you keep in touch with me?

Communication and transparency are very important at MoreThanSAT. After each session with your child, you will receive a Lesson Feedback from the Academic Coach detailing what was covered, how the student is doing, and what homework was assigned. In addition, you can contact your coach or the Lead Academic Coach at any time to address any concerns.

What if my child doesn’t get along with her academic coach?

Before we start our sessions, we usually try to arrange a “meet and greet” with your potential academic coach. In case of conflict that may arise for any reason (e.g., a scheduling conflict), we will find another academic coach for your child.

My child is in middle school, and is struggling. How can MoreThanSAT help?

We offer several options for middle school students, depending on their specific needs. Usually, we focus our attention on equipping each student by supporting academic skills and by building study skills and habits to help them transition well into high school and thrive in new challenges and environments.

What if my son doesn’t want to do this?

We always sit down and discuss with parents and students the advantages of our programs, including what you can expect from More Than SAT, as well as what we expect of the student. Your son may reconsider after being shown the long-term benefits of Academic Coaching. However, if the student is adamant about not wanting to work with More Than SAT, we would certainly honor his or her wishes. However, once we have a mutual understanding of expectations and the student agrees to start our program, we will try our best to hold the student accountable for the commitment he or she has made.

What if the student doesn’t show any improvement?

Almost all students can benefit from More Than SAT’s programs, but there may be a few who are not able to put in the time necessary to make improvements that show up in their grades or test scores. Academic Coaches are committed to communicating regularly with parents, so if a student is struggling or not putting in the effort, it will be noted early on, and More Than SAT will work with the parents to build extra layers of support and accountability.
