Digital Advanced Learning

More Than SAT’s Digital Advanced Learning program, developed through the Harvard Graduate School of Education’s Innovation Lab, blends our individualized academic coaching with state-of-the-art learning technology. We currently use Redbird (digital education developed by Stanford University) that automatically adapts to each student’s unique needs, whether to catch up or move ahead. Our coaches provide a personal touch as they guide students to set and achieve their academic goals—as well as develop essential learning habits and a winning attitude to reach their highest potential.

SPEECHCRAFTER

This program helps youth to build effective listening and speaking skills and to understand and develop their own communication style. Sponsored by a local Toastmaster Club, students will learn:

  • Evaluate current speaking ability.
  • Organize and give speeches.
  • Give impromptu talks.
  • Control voice, vocabulary, and gestures.
  • Give constructive feedback and more

Write On

Designed to lower barriers and fears to writing, students are encouraged and guided to “bring out” their inner writer. They will literally write on and on without fear of deadlines and grades. Students gain confidence and skills by interacting with an experienced writing teacher and with each other through a fun and creative process! They especially enjoy presenting their works in class and seeing them published online to share with family and friends. (Students will need a laptop, Chromebook, or iPad with a keyboard and Google Doc capabilities.)

Lego Robotics Club Incubator (Elective M/W)

This is a fun intro class to help your student learn the basics of Lego Robotics. Students will use the Lego WeDo 2.0 system, which includes Lego projects and their parts, plus computer software with easy-to-use programming that brings life to their models. The class will enable students to think creatively and explore engineering as they try to build several working models based on a theme. Furthermore, students will learn how to form their own Lego Robotics competitive team!

Art (Elective M/W)

Art is deservedly becoming recognized as a necessary part of high school and college education. The “A” in the STEAM curriculum (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) is just as essential as the other parts of the acronym that “academic heads” tend to emphasize. In this class, students will explore many different forms of expression, from traditional media (drawing, painting, sculpting, or mixed) to digital arts. Individual students could also work on supplementing their portfolio depending on their skill levels. There will be a small, additional cost for materials used in this class.

Science Buddy

Whether your student is a science fair novice or a budding scientist, we have multiple levels of projects your student can launch and develop with the guidance of a science teacher. Students will choose their own science experiment according to their academic and experience level. They can grow a simple project into complex scientific research that could eventually make it into the highest level high school science competitions, such as the Intel Science Talent Search or the Google Science Fair. At the very least, after this class, you won’t need to worry about what to do for the upcoming school year’s science fair!

Hip-Hop Dance (Elective T/Th)

Let’s shut up, dance, and let our bodies do the talking and storytelling! In partnership with Korean Cultural Center, students will learn how to express themselves, their passions and stories through creative movement. They’ll learn fun dance moves while gaining the benefits of exercise!

Mandarin 1 (Elective M/W, T/Th)

Mandarin is fast becoming an important world language. This elective course will help students approach through conversations an often-intimidating language in a fun way. Whether a student wants to take Mandarin in high school as a foreign language or wants to explore the joy of learning a new language and its culture, this class will be a fun way to gain a good foundation.

Mandarin 2 (Elective M/W, T/Th)

This class will be for those who have a basic understanding of Mandarin language and want to be prepared for high school class in the future. In addition to conversation skills based on real-life experience, students will practice enhancing their reading and writing skills.
